FKA Twigs is coming out with a new mixtape in the next few days, so it’s time to talk about its lead single again. It’s titled ‘Tears in the Club’, released in collaboration with The Weeknd, with the song and music video revealed on the same day. With Arca, Cirkut, and El Guincho being the FKA Twigs ‘Tears in the Club’ producers, the song is a bop that puts Twigs on the map of mainstream music, as we know she’s a queen of the experimental genre. But it seems that her new mixtape ‘capri sun’ will channel to a wider audience, and it will be hard to find a person that doesn’t know who FKA Twigs is.

As the lyrics for FKA Twigs new song suggest, ‘Tears in the Club’ is all about leaving emotions of sadness and heartbreak on the dancefloor. Like most of FKA Twigs songs, the new single is very personal for the artist, as she went through a difficult time in 2020 filing a lawsuit against Shia LaBeouf, her ex-boyfriend. When announcing FKA Twigs new video, she mentioned on Twitter, “i’ve clawed my way out of the.. darkest place and have pushed hard to find my capri sun”. And yes, the visuals in this one are dark and glitchy – so close to real life experiences of getting drunk in a club because you’re blue.
VFX artists from FRENDER stepped in to help to convey this atmosphere of a haunting night out. With their signature attention to details, FKA Twigs nude dancing in a revealing bikini becomes encapsulated in a tiny jar in The Weeknd’s hands. At the same moment, he’s singing that she can’t escape her feelings about him, that is why Twigs is trapped, just like a small fairy in a jar.
In a bit we can see how she overcomes the emotional struggles and grows. With the help of VFX, Twigs becomes a giant that now chases down The Weeknd and plays with him like a fragile toy. Talk about female empowerment! Yes, FKA Twigs hot video is full of tears, but it’s still an optimistic anthem for all of us, showing that sometimes we just need to blend in with the crowd and let the emotions out on the dancefloor.
